The home of Annabelle Lewandowski on the gently snowy night of Saturday, February 1 st , was abuzz with energy. It was her birthday, and she had invited most of her friends, resplendent with food, booze and board games.
The atmosphere was utterly joyous and warm enough to melt the snow. Annabelle herself was every bit the gracious hostess, plying her guests with wine and funny stories and plenty of honey to take home.
Finally, deep into the night, the party agreed it was time to crowd into the living room so Annabelle could open her gifts. Everyone was especially excited because it had always been fairly easy to shop for the birthday girl, as she had two great and abiding loves: Flower gardens and bees.
